ELECTION WATCH
The race for Ntungamo district Woman MP seat is a hot one, with the National Resistance Movement's (NRM) Josyln Baata Kamateneti facing off with Alliance for National Transformation's (ANT) Cranmah Sayuni Mbekeize and two others.
The seat is currently occupied by Beatrice Rwakimari, who lost to Kamateneti in the NRM primaries.
Other candidates are Forum for Democratic Change's (FDC) Deborah Namara and lawyer Catherine Namara Matsiko, an independent.
Kamateneti has promised to fight for women's rights and support the education of girls.
She also vowed to ensure that money from the youth and women funds reaches the intended beneficiaries.
Kamateneti is popular in Kajara county, where she hails from and in Rushenyi.
Mbikeize is popular in Ruhaama county, where she also hails from.
Namara and Matsiko are also strong in Ntungamo municipality and also have some support in Kajara, Rushenyi, Ruhaama county and Ruhaama East.
Mbeikize said once she joins Parliament, she will find a lasting solution to the problem of girls dropping out of school.
Namara, who has contested for the same seat three times, said she is the solution to the problems of women in the district.
She said because she is a teacher, she will improve education Matsiko has promised to offer free legal training to women so that they know their rights.
However, the two leading contenders are Kamateneti and Mbekeize.
