President Yoweri Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential flag bearer, has asked voters in Kigezi sub-region to avoid the politics of divisionism based on religion and tribes if they are to develop.
Museveni said, unlike the former governments, NRM's strength lies in the unity of all citizens without discrimination.
He was addressing party leaders from the districts of Kabale, Rukiga, Rubanda and Kisoro at Kabale municipal stadium on Saturday at the start of his campaign in Kigezi.
Museveni said the challenges Uganda faces are general and do not affect people based on their origin or beliefs.
Leaders from the districts in a memorandum read by Henry Musasizi, the Rubanda East legislator, asked the President to consider the fulfillment of his government's pledges in the region.
The pledges include the construction of tourism roads, provision of ferries on Lake Bunyonyi and provision of the Batuma memorial Airfield among others.
According to Musasizi, the residents are also looking forward to a solution to the challenge that saw the Rwanda border at Katuna closed which has affected several businesses.
The Prime Minister of Uganda, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, said with the various development contributions the NRM has had in the region, they will win overwhelmingly in the forthcoming elections.
