RDCs given new vehicles

This was the second batch of the vehicles after the first batch of 65 cars was dispersed to the RDCs in November last year.

The Presidency ministry has given out 55 new cars to the last batch of Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) to support service delivery.

The minister for Presidency Esther Mbayo while giving out the cars at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala on Thursday (December 10, 2020) revealed that they costed about Sh11b.

This was the second batch of the vehicles after the first batch of 65 cars was dispersed to the RDCs in November last year.

Mbayo reminded the RDCs that the NRM has already achieved 80% of their 2016-2021 campaign manifesto.

"I therefore urge you to sensitize citizens on what government has achieved in as far as the provision of services is concerned. 80% is good enough, it is more than accredit, so we have cause to tell the people that NRM needs another term," she said.

President Yoweri Museveni, the party candidate is seeking re-election and faces completion from ten other contenders in the election scheduled for January 14, 2021.

"As you mobilize you need to highlight the successful projects implemented and how they have transformed the country," Mbayo said.

She asked them to make it clear to the citizens that whereas government has its primary role of building infrastructures and ensuring peace and stability, they ought to work on their own to improve individual lives and income.

The minister emphasized to the RDCs not to relent on the fight against Covid-19 as it escalates into communities.

"You are the chairpersons of Covid-19-19 taskforce in your districts, Covid-19 is escalating, sensitize the people to put on masks," she said.

The government decided to provide new vehicles to the RDCs according to Mbayo after it was established that the fleet of their vehicles was aged and required replacement.

"The fleet of RDC's vehicles had aged more than 10 years and yet there is a policy that we follow to bond off the vehicles but we could not because the process was slow," she said.

She said the next step is to secure vehicles for the deputy RDCs and that this will soon be done.

The secretary to the Office of the President, Hajji Yunus Kakande said in the next financial year if the ruling party secures another term, they will ensure vehicles for the deputy RDCs.

"By next financial year all the RDCs and deputy RDCs in this country will be having reliable means of transport.

My appeal to you is to handle these vehicles well and jealously keep them in sound condition," he said.

He urged them as the head of security in their districts not to allow any form of violence in their districts during this electoral period.

The Kyankwanzi RDC, David Maxwell Kaboyo commended government for facilitating the RDCs pledging that they will work hard to open up people's eyes on what the NRM has done.

"We shall inform and open people's eyes and ears on the enormous things NRM has done and those fake stories of nothing have been done will be neutralized," Kaboyo said.

Dan Muganga, the RDC Nakasongola disclosed that the new vehicles will help the RDC's office in executing their Constitutional mandate of mobilizing and monitoring government programmes.

Many of the communities we serve are rural based and much deeper and sometimes have been very difficult to reach out to all areas especially in the events of floods and bad roads.

Therefore this is a great opportunity provided by the President to enable us do our work effectively," Muganga said.
