The gender and culture state minister, Peace Mutuuzo, who is also the Bunyangabu district Woman MP has asked voters in Bunyangabu to avoid the politics of tribalism.

Mutuuzo said people of Bunyangabu should not elect leaders based on their ethnicity, but rather their potentials and competence.

Mutuuzo was addressing National Resistance Movement (NRM) party supporters in Kibiito town council on Sunday (December 6, 2020).

She said some politicians in the district had started dividing the people basing on their tribes instead of promoting unity.

"One of our values in the NRM party is unity and some politicians in the district are already dividing our people on tribal grounds, which must stop," Mutuuzo said.

"We do not want anyone to divide the support of the NRM party. Since the 1980s, the NRM has enjoyed great support in our district and we shall continue supporting President Yoweri Museveni," Mutuuzo said.

Bunyangabu was carved out of Kabarole district.

James Ategeka Mugarama, the district LC5 chairperson, said since the district was created, leaders at different levels have been embroiled in wrangles, which have affected development.

"People should vote focused leaders because we have had a very big problem in our council because of divisions. Sometimes, we would prepare meals during council sessions and councillors would refuse to eat," Mugarama said.

Bunyangabu district hosts Batoro, Bakiga, Bakonzo, Bamba and Bafumbira tribesmen.

Elias Bwambale, a resident of Kabonero sub-county, said because of tribes in one area, leaders should to focus on unity.
