ACCIDENT
The Police in Wakiso are still hunting for a driver whose vehicle was captured by the Police Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera crashing to death two people on a boda boda .
The incident occurred on Wednesday at 8:00 am during rush hours. The rider and his passenger were crushed to death in front of a CCTV camera at Global Paints junction near Kireka Market along the Kampala-Jinja highway.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango said video footage retrieved by the police captured the incident where a speeding driver of an Isuzu Forward truck, UAY 545F heading to Kampala rammed into two people.
According to Onyango, the cyclist, riding motorcycle registration number UEF 765F heading towards Kampala first knocked a woman on the roadside, which forced him to lose control and fell in the middle of the road. It was at this point that an oncoming truck crashed them to death.
He said the unidentified woman on the roadside survived the accident and left the scene. He identified the deceased as Musa Julius, the boda boda rider and a resident of Kireku Zone in Bweyogerere in Kira Municipality, and his passenger only identified as Akundaho.
The police visited the scene and took the two bodies to the city mortuary for a post mortem examination as investigations continued.
Onyango said the truck driver did not stop after the accident but efforts were underway to find him.
The Police attributed the fatal accident to over speeding by the truck driver, who could have saved their lives if he was driving within the speed limits.
"We appeal to motorists to avoid speeding and be careful in such busy places since there are always many other road users," Onyango said.
