Atomic Energy Council named most visionary govt regulatory agency

Atomic Energy Council was rewarded for its outstanding work in regulating nuclear energy applications in Uganda.

 

Atomic Energy Council was recently honored with an award for being the best visionary government regulatory energy agency of the year 2020 by the Government of Uganda.

The 8th Visionaries Award event was held at Serena Hotel and was graced by dignitaries who included His Excellency Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, the planning and economic development, Hon. Justice Alfonse Owiny- Dollo Chief Justice and Hon. Wilson Muruli Mukasa Minister of public service among others.

The 8th Visionaries of Uganda awards have been running under the theme "Celebrating dynamic leadership and strengthening the fundamentals of the economy to achieve the Uganda Vision 2040."

Atomic Energy Council was rewarded for its outstanding work in regulating nuclear energy applications in Uganda.

The applications are mainly used in medical industry, agriculture, education and research with the major emphasis on radiation, protection, safety and security.

The agency also foresees the regulation peaceful applications of ionizing radiation in Uganda, providing protection and safety of individuals, society and the environment from the dangers of ionizing radiation.

Uganda Vision 2040 is a brain child of His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni the President of the republic of Uganda who is the Chief Visionary. 

Uganda Vision 2040 is premised around strengthening the fundamentals of the economy to harness the abundant opportunities in industrialisation, oil and gas, tourism, education, agriculture, employment, ICT among others.

The National Planning Authority which spearheads the Nation Development Plan provides operational guidance through technical acumen and know-how on achieving the Uganda Visions 2040 which is a blue print for the transformation of our country from a peasant dominated informal economy to an industrious middle income country.

Ssekandi said that recognition and giving awards to people both in public and private sector inspires and spurs them to think more and work harder and is also a thank you gesture in gratitude to their activities.

The vice president commended the spectrum of the awards outreach that has been extended to personalities, companies, NGOS, and government agencies which has been done through surveys and research and in a transparent manner.

Atomic Energy Council management representatives present at the event lead by Noah Deogratius Luwalira, the secretary & Chief Executive Officer expressed utmost gratitude upon receiving the award.

"Atomic Energy Council being a government agency mandated to carry out radiation safety and radiation protection inspections to assess radiation safety and security conditions to ensure that operators of radiation sources comply with radiation protection and safety requirements and the license conditions," Luwalira said.

The Minister of Public Service, Muruli Mukasa, said that the government recognizes and appreciates pace setters for development in the country especially manufacturers who are doing value addition to the commodities in the country and which is in line with vision 2040.

Other visionary awardees were; case hospital as the best visionary private hospital, Uganda Printing & publishing Corporation -printing Agency of the year, Isbat University- best university teaching via online among others.
