ELECTION WATCH | RUHAAMA COUNTY | NRM
The Electoral Commission (EC) has refuted allegations that Henry Nkwasibwe Zinkuratire, an aspirant vying for the Ruhaama County MP seat on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket, was disqualified over lack of an A'level certificate.
Paul Bukenya, the EC spokesperson, told New Vision that they have not yet made a decision on the petition filed by Isaac Nuwagaba, who is also contesting for the same.
Nuwagaba is the flag-bearer for Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
Bukenya also trashed the letter which was trending on social media bearing a signature of Justice Simon Byabakama, the EC chairperson.
He said it was a fake document.
Bukenya said the commission is still studying the petition and a ruling will be delivered on notice to both parties.
Recently, Nuwagaba petitioned the EC, alleging that his rival, Zinkuratire, was nominated using fake academic documents.
However, Zinkuratire said this was political witch hunt.
He said he has the required qualifications and that the opposition members want to disorganise him.
Zinkuratire is the younger brother of the late former area MP, William Beijukye, who served two years as Ruhaama MP (2016-2018).
Zinkuratire will be tussling it out for the seat with Nuwagaba, Gerald Mucurezi Karakore (Alliance for National Transformation) and Guard Kamaradi-Habineza (independent).
