Two held over defacing Museveni posters

According to Onyango, a team of police officers was dispatched to the scene and they found billboards of presidential candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and that of Kira Municipality mayoral candidate Mamerito Mugerwa being defaced.

The Police were on Thursday still holding two men for allegedly defacing posters of nominated candidates in the forthcoming elections including those belonging to the National Resistance Movement Presidential candidate, Yoweri Museveni. 

The suspects include Steven Kabangambe, a car washer, and Sabiiti Kalumba, both residents of the same area, Kazinga Main Zone in Bweyogerere, Kira Municipality.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, Patrick Onyango said that the suspects and others still at large defaced 10 posters and burnt two billboards of various candidates at around 0110hours, near Kazinga, Bweyogerere, Kira Municipality in Wakiso district.

He said the police received information at 0115 hours from the local community that there were posters being defaced.

Other posters that were being destroyed belonged to Isaac Senkubuge, the incumbent LC III Bweyogerere, Emmanuel Katumba Senkeezi candidate for Kira Municipality constituency, Yudaya Nansubuga, candidate for LC III councilor Kazinga main, Yoweri Nkayi Mudiope candidate for councilor LCIII  Kazinga Main zone, and others. 

The exhibits, according to Onyango were recovered and two suspects are still in police custody to help Police with Investigations. 

The suspects, Onyango explained, were facing charges under section 78 (2) of The Presidential Elections Act 2005.

"The detectives are yet to retrieve CCTV footage to review it for possible identification of more perpetrators," he said.
