Deaf couple stranded with triplets, seeks support

Three days after delivering the babies normally, Kawunde cannot afford a decent meal, beddings or even baby clothes for the babies.

Three cute little babies lie on a bed in a single room in Makindye, Ssabagabo zone.

It is a chilly afternoon and the neighbours cannot seem to get enough of them.

As they peacefully sleep, Caroline Kawunde, the mother is all smiles and thanking God for the gift. She got one girl and two boys.

The 26-year-old deaf woman had the triplets together with her deaf husband on Sunday, November 29, 2020, at Lufuka Health Center 3.

The couple also has two children. A boy and a girl.

Three days after delivering the babies normally, Kawunde cannot afford a decent meal, beddings or even baby clothes for the babies.

Through sign language, interpreted by her landlady, Teopista Nakafeero, Kawunde narrates her story.

"I thank God for this bundle of joy, but I do not have enough breastmilk for all of them and they have a big appetite. I am finding it hard to look after them because I do not have a job," said Kawunde.

Kawunde said that she would like to work but she cannot get a job because of her situation.

"I want to work but no one can give me a job because I will be a burden to them because I cannot hear. Even during antenatal I would go with my landlady at the hospital," Kawunde said.

Kawunde cannot afford a decent meal, beddings or even baby clothes for the babies.

Kawunde's husband is a welder in Kisenyi suburb and Kawunde is a senior three drop out.

Though Kawunde is seeking for baby support, together with her husband cannot afford to pay rent of sh50,000 for their single room.

Any well-wisher with baby clothes, porridge, feeding bottles, basins, formula baby milk and beddings can help the couple.

The babies still share one basin, two blankets and one mattress which was given to them by a neighbor.
