How to make a doormat

When you speak of things you can do from home, a doormat is one of them. It's cheap and easy to make from home during your free time.

Experts say doormats are a must-have in every home, yet they can be made from home to save money that would have been spent on buying them.

Doreen Kiggundu, a lady who makes doormats says they are usually placed at the entrance of your home and these absorb dust or mud on the feet of those getting into the house.

She adds that depending on the size, some homeowners opt to put them at the centre of their living rooms, to keep the place warm.

But one wonders, how can a doormat be made

Kiggundu says it's easy. Doormats can be made using old clothes or a specific type of thread.

"Besides that, you will need a crocheting needle and a sack or a mesh where you attach the threads or clothes to make the doormat and a pair of scissors, "she adds.

Juliet Nandela who also makes doormats agrees with Kiggundu. She says with the above requirements, you can go ahead and prepare to start making a doormat.

"With your pair of scissors, cut threads or recycled clothes into sizable shapes that you intend to use to make a doormat," says Nandera.

She adds that after cutting the mesh or sack to a size that you prefer to make. Use a pencil or marker to draw pictures or words on the mesh/sack that you wish to have in the doormat. The drawings guide you as you make the doormat.

"After that start attaching the threads or recycled clothes on the mesh/sack. The more you attach the better and thicker your doormat gets, "explains Nandela.

She says after you have attached threads on the entire mesh/sack you are good to go. Place your doormat at your point of preference in your home.

However, she cautions that before you make a doormat, choose colors that match your house's interior and exterior. She adds that it is important to clean the doormat whenever the need arises. Cleaning it involves dusting it or even washing it to remove the mud. In case it is washed, ensure that it dries well, for it to serve its purpose.
