The academy when completed will not only serve Uganda but the region in general

The chairman of the Africa Cricket Academy Steven Magongo is satisfied with what Uganda has to offer in terms of starting an Elite Cricket Academy in East Africa.

Mangongo and his partner Amos Mawungwa jetted into the country on Friday on a fact-finding mission for Uganda's potential as a home for a new cricket academy in East Africa.

After the three days in which they visited Naguru and Jinja. In particular Jinja SS and Busoga College Mwiri the academy is a foregone conclusion.

"Our visit here is to build a cricket academy in Uganda so that we produce youths of absolute excellence. Who are global competitors and can fit into the Uganda national team. That is the agenda, we believe in the latent potential of the Uganda Sports people especially cricket," Mangongo commented.

The academy when completed will not only serve Uganda but the region in general.

"We shall also look to make sure that Uganda Cricket high performance spearheaded by the Africa Cricket Academy becomes the hub of cricket coaching in East Africa. Countries like Tanzania, Rwanda, and Kenya are all cricketing nations and they need a school of excellence," Mangongo said.

They are happy that UCA is cooperating with them especially since Uganda is one of the most ideal places to play cricket in.

"We are talking of a tropical country which has got rain all year round lush green environment all year round and excellent people who are very welcoming as you can see, I'm back in Uganda," Mangongo explained.

He was even more impressed with the schools he got to tour and their potential in terms of helping the game to grow.

"I've been to Jinja Secondary School a massive institution with nearly 5000 students. It doesn't get any better than that for us in the Africa Cricket Academy, to get into an institution with 5000 boys and girls. It means half of our job is done because when we get the students, we at ACA have got the expertise, experience knowledge know-how of turning the youth into good cricketers. We have the experience to turn them into world-class cricketers," he lauded.

The visit to Mwiri also left the duo impressed.

"Mwiri is a fantastic absolutely breathtaking and amazing institution. Absolutely historical place, rich in its legacy and foundation. We met the headmaster at Mwiri who is a very passionate man who is willing to work with us and identify an academy."

The successful trip has Mangongo and Mawungwa ready to start the project as soon as possible.

"The next step is to make sure we are back in Uganda as soon as possible to start our project. The vision with the Uganda Cricket Association is to produce world-class cricketers as soon as possible to start this journey to stardom. We know that in East Africa there is no world-class cricket academy but we know that there are many passionate people who love cricket especially in Uganda," he concluded.
