Besigye to boost Amuriat campaigns in Rukungiri today

It is said the party also decided to involve Besigye to save the flag bearers from  independents who claim they were endorsed by the opposition giant.

FDC heavyweight and former presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye is expected to breathe life into FDC presidential candidate Patrick Amuriat Oboi's campaigns in Rukungiri today.

It is said the party also decided to involve Besigye in today's campaigns to save the flag bearers, whose supporters are being misled by independents claiming Besigye has endorsed them.

In Rukungiri Municipality, the FDC MP flag bearer Dr Warren Niwagaba faces off with Ingrid Turinawe (Independent), who was defeated in the primaries but refused to concede. For Woman MP, former Rukungiri Woman MP Winnie Babihuga, is standing against the flag bearer Betty Muzanira.

FDC won over Rukungiri district in the 2016 presidential elections, with Besigye garnering 58,883 votes representing 50.40%, compared to President Yoweri Museveni's 56,425 (48.29%).

This was the first time Kiiza Besigye was leading in his home district of Rukungiri where NRM used to enjoy the highest percentage of votes.

It's not clear if FDC will win Rukungiri again without Besigye on the ballot paper, but the opposition giant is willing to do the work in canvassing for votes for the party.
