NEBBI - Mambo Okumu, 35, is a supporter of Gen. Henry Tumukunde, one of the independent candidates in the presidential race.

From morning on Wednesday (November 25, 20202), Okumu, a broker and a resident of Nebbi town, had been waiting for the opportunity to hear from his preferred presidential candidate.

But when the time finally came at around 3:00 pm, Okumu could only glance at his candidate from afar.

"The Police did not allow him, they were all over him, they kept on flagging him off, even at satellite stage on Uringi Road, where he had stopped to wave to people, they pushed him off!" Okumu said.

James Onoba, an army veteran who was also expecting to hear from Tumukunde on how he will improve on the welfare of the ex-servicemen, was also left disappointed.

"We are really suffering; it is not easy to access our pension and gratuity. I was optimistic to hear how Tumukunde intends to address the issue," he said.

Tumukunde just passed through Nebbi without addressing a rally.

He simply waved to people through the main road, making a brief stop-over at Satellite Hotel, before speeding to Paidha.

The Police kept on following him and asking him to leave.

George Obia, the Nebbi District Police Commander, denied stopping Tumukunde from addressing his supporters.

He instead said Tumukunde drove off past Nebbi, after realising that there were no people at the venue where he was supposed to address the rally.

He explained that Tumukunde was expected to address a rally at Nebbi Town SS, about 1km from Nebbi Town on the Nebbi-Arua road.

"No one stopped Gen. Tumukunde from speaking to his supporters, only that when he consulted, he found there were no people at the venue for the rally and he sped off to Zombo," Obia said.

He questioned how Tumukunde was able to wave to his supporters if they say he was blocked.
