National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi, has said he is not the usual presidential candidate Uganda has ever seen.

He said his take on presidency took President Yoweri Museveni by surprise.

"I'm not the usual presidential challenger like the rest you have seen. In fact I was not in President Museveni's plan as his challenger and that explains all the harassment I have been subjected to," he said.

"We are the real opposition. The current regime has never faced a solid opposition like ours, "he said.

Addressing his supporters at Bikoma Primary School in Butemba sub county in Kyankwanzi district on Friday (November 28, 2020), Kyagulanyi said a number of current and former presidential candidate are all Museveni's former allies or military Generals.

These he said include Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) candidate, Gen Mugisha Muntu a former army commander, independent candidate, Gen Henry Tumukunde former chief spy and security minister, former prime minister, Amama Mbabazi and four-time presidential candidate, Dr Kizza Besigye a former minister among others.

Narrating his ordeal to supporters at Kawogo primary school in Bukuya, Kassanda district how police denied him accommodation at Migyera in Nakasongola, he is determined to accomplish his mission.

"I slept on the street and I have not bathed. That's not the issue, the issue is to liberate Ugandans from enslavement," he said.

He said although he has suffered the police brutality, his promise to pay lowest ranking police officer sh1m salary once elected president, remains top on agenda.

"Don't hate them, they are simply implementing orders from above. On top of that salary, I will introduce health insurance scheme for security forces personnel and members of their families," he said.

He accused the current regime of turning Ugandans into second class citizens promising to improve agriculture, revive co-operative unions, better education system for the people of Kiboga, Kyankwanzi, Nakasongola and all Ugandans in general.

At Nakasongola, Kyagulanyi drove past the revenue to town after beating security barricades to commission party offices.

There was heavy security deployment at the venue rally at Rwamutoogo with supporters blocked from accessing the venue.

At Nakasongola, Police defied Electoral Commission's call to let presidential candidates carry on with their rallies provided they meet standard operating procedures.

A handful of NUP supporters who braved their way to Rwamutoogo cattle market sang and danced to Kyagulanyi's "Olutalo nga luwedde."

Kalungi Denis a resident of Nakasongola accused police of being biased to their candidate.

"We want change that will offer us jobs and improve of standards of living," Kalungi a 26-year-old said.
