KAMPALA - Police have implored candidates vying for various electoral offices in the 2021 general elections to adhere to the 6:00 pm open scientific campaign stop time.

On Friday (November 27, 2020), Police spokesperson Fred Enanga, said a field report has indicated that many candidates have failed to conclude their campaigns by 6:00 pm as guided by the Electoral Commission.

He was addressing the press security briefing at the Uganda Media Centre(UMC) in the capital Kampala.

"Candidates are not observing the campaign limit of 6:00 pm. Others are driving at a snail pace and deviating from campaign activities," said Enanga.

He advised candidates to make adequate preparations to fit in the campaign time, to avoid being inconvenienced by the curfew time that runs from 9:00 pm to 5:30 am.

The publicist re-echoed strict compliance with the COVID-19 standard operating procedures.

The first set of polls; President, Members of Parliament, is slated for January 14, with campaigns closing on January 12.

The rest of the polls will be conducted on January 18, 23, and February 1 for city/district local governments, municipality, sub county, and division chairpersons and councillors.
