Vision Group journalist Muwanga Kakooza laid to rest

Daniel Muwanga Kakooza, a long-serving Vision Group journalist attached to Bukedde Newspaper, has been laid to rest at his family's cemetery at Ssanga, Matugga in Wakiso district.
The seasoned journalist succumbed to malaria at Kiruddu National Referral Hospital on Sunday (November 22, 2020), aged 46.
His burial on Tuesday (November 24) was graced by hundreds of mourners.
Vision Group journalists and several other members of the media fraternity were among the many mourners who graced the funeral function.
Muwanga Kakooza was generally acknowledged as a friendly and jolly journalist, who exhibited great integrity and professionalism as he did his work.
The Deputy Editor of Bukedde, Michael Ssebbowa, referred to Kakooza as a "unique journalist."
He spoke highly of Kakooza moral disposition, which he attributed to the responsible parenting, which the deceased's parents exercised.
"He was one of our dependable field journalists. He was humble, obedient, friendly, flexible, and highly committed. He always insisted on the truth."
Hajat Hadija Nabukenya of Vision Group also spoke well of Kakooza referring to him as a kind and jolly soul, who always used his infectious smile and cheeky demeanor to hook friends.
The founder of National Action for Awakening Uganda (Sisimuka Uganda), Frank Gashumba commended Muwanga Kakooza for championing the rights of vulnerable people.
He said it was Muwanga Kakooza who helped him to highlight the case of Aisha Nabukeera, the young girl who was burnt by a stepmother in 2007.
As a consequence of Kakooza's hard work, Gashumba said, money was donated for the treatment and education of Nabukeera, who finished University last year and is now working with the American software developer Bill Gates.
Harriet Kakooza, a sibling, said Muwanga Kakooza had carried out his responsibilities as the heir of their father, with great determination and devotion.
"He was a good dad in all aspects. He took care of us, provided all our needs and also went to greater length to find us jobs. He started paying my school fees when I was in S5. Later, when I completed my studies, he helped me to get a job at Bukedde Newspaper."
The Assistant Director, Communications and Public Affairs at the Uganda Parliament, Helen Nanteza Kawesa, called Muwanga Kakooza a "person of great character."
Muwanga Kakooza's funeral was preceded by prayers presided over by Rev Nelson Ssejjongo and the area Church of Uganda Lay Reader, James Jjuuko.
