Bamasaba cultural leader roots for close ties with govt

The cultural leader of the Bamasaba (Umukuka III), Jude Mike Mudoma, has said the institution is ready to work with the Government to promote tourism and development in Bugisu sub-region.

Mudoma said he wants the annual circumcision ceremony held in the region to be elevated to a national tourism event as a measure to drive development to the region.

"Bugisu is well known for circumcision and it is one of the items we want to translate into a big cultural tourism event. It attracts many people but we have no home where we can conduct these activities," he stated.

"If the Government can come in to develop a cultural centre and centre of excellence at Mutoto where the activities are carried out, tourists would leave some money here," he added.

The cultural leader, who was installed just four days ago, also appealed to government to boost infrastructure in the region, including roads leading to prominent tourist sites.

The Umukuka is one of the delegates who attended President Yoweri Museveni's scientific campaign meeting held at Masaba Secondary School grounds in Sironko district on Thursday.

He said his presence at the meeting was out of courtesy to the National Resistance Movement leader who restored cultural institutions in Uganda.

The cultural leader said he was eager to hold talks with government on the return of its properties including land.
