FMU releases truncated 2021 draft calendar

Motocross events have also been cut by three

The Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) has released the 2021 calendar with only five National Rally Championship (NRC) events on the card.

According to the draft calendar, next year's events will be a continuation of two of this year's events that include the Mbarara Rally and Central Motor Club Rally held in February and March respectively.

FMU decided not to award Fred Busulwa Kitaka with the 2020 NRC Championship title when the calendar was halted following the COVID-19 pandemic that resulted in the government suspending social gatherings including sports activities.

"It was decided that the calendar will continue next year. So Kitaka will start the championship with his 130 points collected in this year's two events," Ernest Ziwa FMU assistant secretary noted.

However, the decision not to award Kitaka the NRC and 2WD titles did not go well with other drivers who think FMU cheated Kitaka.

"This is broad daylight robbery. If there is no event again next year, what will happen?" Aaron Nsamba asked.

Motocross cuts

Meanwhile, motocross events have also been cut by three and next year will see only five events held on the national championship if the executive approves the calendar on Thursday.

According to the calendar, there are five national championship events instead of the usual eight and three international events that include Central Africa Championship 1 in April, FIM Africa in August, and the FIM Central Africa 2 in December.
