The Lord Mayor of Kampala City, Elias Lukwago who was flown to Nairobi Tuesday (November 24, 2020), has been diagnosed with acute anaphylaxis, according to a statement from Kampala City Council.

Anaphylaxis causes your immune system to release a flood of chemicals that can cause you to go into shock; your blood pressure drops suddenly and your airways narrow, blocking breathing.

Signs and symptoms include a rapid, weak pulse; a skin rash; and nausea and vomiting.

Anaphylaxis is a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. It can occur within seconds or minutes of exposure to something you're allergic to, such as peanuts or bee stings.

The statement adds, "Following this advice, the Lord Mayor departed Tuesday for Nairobi where he arrived safely and has since commenced the necessary medical procedures."

It adds, "The Office of the Lord Mayor appreciates the overwhelming concerns and sympathies. We hope for quick recovery and return to Kampala."
