Kyagulanyi resumes campaigns amid tight security

TORO SUB-REGION - National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential flagbearer Robert Kyagulamyi resumed his campaigns on Monday amid ramped up security.

Kyagulanyi started his first rally in western Uganda in Kyegegwa town, but was not allowed to address his supporters. About eight Police vehicles carrying security personnel were deployed to track him from Kyegegwa, Kyenjojo to Kabarole districts in Toro sub-region.

Kyagulanyi drew scores of supporters as he entered Kabarole. Police fired teargas to disperse them.

On his way to Kyenjojo, where he addressed a rally at St. Augustine Demonstration Primary School at Butiti, 20 kilometers away from Kyenjojo town, the NUP leader said he is leading a "purely Ugandan-based mission of change".

Kyagulanyi, who is the sitting Member of Parliament of Kyadondo East, is contesting for the presidency alongside 10 others candidates.

He is racing against the incumbent, President Yoweri Museveni (NRM), Patrick Oboi Amuriat (FDC), Gen. Mugisha Muntu (ANT) and Norbert Mao (DP).

Independents Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde, Joseph Kabuleta, Nancy Linda Kalembe, John Katumba, Fred Mwesigye and Willy Mayambala are also in the race.
