"Our target is the low-income earner to operate inside the market, including the vendors. Absentee landlords who may want to buy space have no place here," the Local Government Minister, Raphael Magyezi, told New Vision in an interview on Sunday.

The modern market has facilities for value addition to cereals, storage facilities, and cold storage chains.

It will also be fitted with CCTV cameras linked to the area Police station, underground water harvest facilities capable of storing 500,000 lit resources, as well as banking, medical facilities, restaurants and office space.

A daycare centre has been created at the market for breastfeeding mothers to tend to their children while they work.

According to Magyezi, the market is expected to boost development in Teso sub-region and Soroti in particular.
