Museveni commissions Phase 4 of Internet Connectivity Project

Phase IV is a continuation of Phases I to III which were funded by China’s EXIM Bank between 2007 and 2016.

President Yoweri Museveni on Saturday, November 21st, commissioned the National Information Technology, Uganda (NITA-U) fourth phase of the National Backbone Infrastructure Connectivity project.

Museveni, in a tweet, said; "I commissioned the NBI phase IV project in Moroto, the national backbone infrastructure network which will connect the people of Karamoja to the rest of the world through the Internet. The network will be extended to schools and hospitals."

The project which was funded by the World Bank, and assigned to be set up by Huawei technology, is also referred to as the Internet Connectivity Project for West Nile and Karamoja regions.

Phase IV is a continuation of Phases I to III which were funded by China's EXIM Bank between 2007 and 2016.

Huawei has been tasked to build the phase of the national backbone infrastructure and e-government infrastructure project, to connect districts and towns across the country. The districts to be connected include Pakwach, Nebbi, Arua, Yumbe, Koboko, Adjumani, Katakwi and the border points of Oraba, Vurra and Mpondwe.
