A parliamentary candidate for Nansana Municipality in Wakiso district has been admitted to a private health facility in critical condition after he was allegedly assaulted by his rival and supporters of his opponent.
Stephen Kaweesa, a National Unity Platform supporter who lost the flag to his rival Hanningron Musoke Wakayima was last night rushed to the Community Clinic at Lugoba and was on life support machines after he was assaulted during a clash with supporters of his opponent.
Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, Luke Owoyosigyire confirmed that there was a clash when supporters of the two camps confronted each other along Nabweru road in Nansana town on Tuesday evening. He however said no formal complaint was filed at the police by either side.
Michael Kiggundu, Kaweesa's brother said the candidate was still in a coma at the facility and the family was still worried about his health.
According to Kiggundu, Kaweesa was part of his team that was moving in a drive with loudspeakers. He said they moved from Lubigi swamp and moved towards Hoima road asking for support from voters but were locked up in heavy traffic and decided to branch off at Nabweru road. He said a person inside Wakayima's car threw a stone at their car.
He said their supporters tried to react but were badly beaten. They then pulled Kaweesa from the car and beat him into a coma. He said all their posters were pulled from the truck and were torn into pieces and their vehicles vandalised. Others in the race include NRM"s Kibirige Ssebunya, Kintu Musoke(Independent) among others.
