It is Tuesday, November 17, 2020 and the election campaigns continue.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential campaign team is on the eastern trail and today, they are destined for Butaleja district, where the party's flagbearer Robert Kyagulanyi is to canvass for election support.

He is expected to then proceed to Tororo district for a planned rally at Children's Lions Park, reports New Vision's Faustine Odeke, who adds that security has been deployed in Tororo ahead of Kyagulanyi's scheduled appearance there.

On Monday, the NUP leader and his team kicked off week two of their campaign trail in Mayuge district, where his supporters were excited to meet him. They lined the roads to have a glimpse of Kyagulanyi.

The NUP leader was accompanied by Ritah Mathur Nakayiza, the aspiring Woman MP for Mayuge.

After holding a rally at the district headquarters, hundreds followed Kyagulanyi as he left the playground to Mayuge town, New Vision's Betty Angatai reported.

The residents there said they want improved health services, education and infrastructure.

Kyagulanyi stressed the need to boost and revive the education standards in Busoga sub-region and promised to revive the industrial town of Busoga as a way to create employment for the people.

After the Mayuge rally, he then proceeded to Bugiri and Iganga districts where he was scheduled to hold similar rallies.

At first, his convoy appeared to want to use a shortcut to Mayuge town contrary to the security's directions. The security team blocked the road, preventing the NUP supporters from accessing the road.

The crowds were dispersed and Kyagulanyi later used the recommended route amidst tight security.

Later, after addressing a rally in Iganga, Kyagulanyi failed to make it on time at his scheduled rally in Bugiri. Candidates have until 6pm to address their planned rallies.

New Vision's Moses Bikala reported that Kyagulanyi was blocked by Police from addressing his supporters after arriving at Bugiri district headquarters at around 6:30pm - half-and-hour past the deadline.

He was in the company of Bugiri Municipality MP Asuman Basalirwa.
