After concluding his first week of presidential campaigns in West Nile, incumbent President Yoweri Museveni is next headed for Acholi sub-region, as he intensifies his call to Ugandans to keep him in power in the 2021 general election.

For Uganda's top seat, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flagbearer is facing competition from Patrick Oboi Amuriat (FDC), Robert Kyagulanyi (NUP), Gen. Mugisha Muntu (ANT) and Norbert Mao (DP).

Independents Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde, Joseph Kabuleta, Nancy Linda Kalembe, John Katumba, Fred Mwesigye and Willy Mayambala are also in the race.

The NRM campaign concluded its first week of campaigns with candidate Museveni meeting youth leaders from West Nile and Lango sub-regions.

He is now expected to head to the northern Ugandan district of Gulu today (Monday), before later crossing to Kitgum on Tuesday as per the schedule he agreed on with the national Electoral Commission.

Gulu is one of the districts that overwhelmingly voted for him with a 74.47% score in 2016.

On Tuesday, Museveni will be heading to Kitgum, a district that gave hime 41.84% of their votes the last time out.

Kitgum is bordered by Padibe to the north, Mucwini to the north-east, Kitgum Matidi to the east, Acholibur to the south, and Pajimu to the west.

By road, it is about 108km north-east of Gulu, the largest city in the Acholi sub-region.

Kitgum, named after its 'chief town' of Kitgum, where the district headquarters is located, suffered many deaths and social disruption resulting from the 20-year civil war within the region during the late 20th century.

After Acholi, Museveni will be heading to Karamoja on Wednesday.
