KAMPALA - Uganda People's Congress (UPC) party has appreciated the government for increasing the number of people who are supposed to be at political gatherings from 70 people to 200.

On November 4, UPC came out with a statement pleading to the government to limit the number of people at political gatherings basing on how big the venue is.

"The move will help candidates to communicate to more people live who will duplicate their messages to other electorates back in their areas," the party Head of Media and Communications Faizo Muzeyi said.

Muzeyi made the remarks during the party's weekly press conference at Uganda House in Kampala on Wednesday (November 11, 2020).

He added that it is important for candidates to adhere to the available Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on COVID-19 from the Ministry of Health.

Muzeyi further said Ugandans should learn from the recent campaign events and choose to work very closely with various campaign teams, so as to harmonize any issues.

"Let all stakeholders cooperate for peaceful campaigns, free and fair elections for the good of both our people and our motherland, Uganda," he said.

The party also requested all those offering services to the campaigns especially the media to be very considerate and offer their services to candidates at an affordable, sustainable price.

"This will not only enable them to carry out their campaigns smoothly but also contribute to the fight against commercialisation of politics, which has been and continue to affect service delivery after elections," Muzeyi said.
