KAMPALA - The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General, Justine Kasule Lumumba has urged security operatives to enforce COVID-19 guidelines uniformly without discrimination.

According to Lumumba, this will help the country to have peaceful elections.

She made the remarks at their party's press weekly briefing, NRM Secretariat in Kyadondo, Kampala on Sunday (November 8, 2020).

Lumumba said it is bad for police officers to fail to enforce the Ministry of Health COVID-19 guidelines in fear of unpleasing members of the ruling party.

"NRM members are not above the law, COVID-19 affects everybody whether from the ruling party or not. You may assume you are favoring the latter because it's the party in power but that's disfavoring us," Lumumba said.

Lumumba's remarks come after accusations from members of the opposition saying police disperses their gatherings for not following Covid-19 guidelines and turn a deaf hear to members of the ruling party.

During the nomination, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Patrick Oboi Amuriat and National Unity Platform (NUP) Robert Kyagulanyi were teargassed by police over failing to observe COVID-19 SOPs as those of the ruling party were left to conduct business as usual.

"Police should not favor anybody but treat every bod equally," She noted.

Lumumba said that it's everybody's responsibility whether from NUP, NRM, FDC, or any other party to ensure that covid-19 guidelines are followed.

She assured NRM supporters that their presidential candidate, Museveni, was successfully nominated and called them to start door to door campaigns.

Other party officials present were State Minister for ICT Peter Ogwang, Matias Kisamba, the NRM Director for mobilizations, Hajjati Madinah, the Director Administration and Finance, Jackie Kyatuhirye, Director National Treasury and the party's Director Communication, Emmanuel Dombo.

Lumumba called for discipline and unity among the party members, urging them to behave responsibly as this will help the part to gather support from all Ugandans.

She later unveiled the Party programs starting with that of Monday where they will have a meeting with leaders of great Luweero that is made up of Luweero, Nakaseke, and Nakasongola districts.
