COVID-19 |

There is relief at Kyambogo University after nine members of staff at the faculty of vocational studies test negative for COVID-19.

This followed one senior member of staff testing positive for COVID-19 and was rushed to Mulago hospital, where he was admitted with complications.

The discovery of the positive case caused panic at the campus which opened recently after almost six months in a lockdown.

The university spokesperson Reuben Twinomujuni, who confirmed the positive case said the nine other staff in the same faculty were sent home in self-isolation.

He said health workers from Mulago hospital later followed them up at their respective homes and carried tests, but all of them have been found negative.

He, however, said the members will stay home until after two weeks when another test will be done to confirm their status.

Twinomujuni said the university had intensified the enforcement of standard operating procedures and encouraged staff to work from home.

He said the ICT department was working on connecting staff to conduct virtual meetings to minimize physical interaction.

He added they have maintained finalists at campus and were conducting online studies for post graduate students, including Masters and Phds as they wait for the government to make final decision on the rest of the continuing students.
