He said the public should support campaigns of the parties of their choice those they want to get into power, as part of their investment towards the kind of the change they desire.

ELECTION WATCH | ANT

The former army commander and founder of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), has called on the public to support the campaigns for the opposition.

Maj Gen. Gregory Mugisha Muntu, stressed that unlike the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), the opposition is likely to face financial constraints during their campaigns, which might affect their performance.

Muntu also noted that given the little period for campaigns, they might even fail to cover all the 145 districts in 60 days (two months).

"It is not going to be easy to cover all these 145 districts in the 60 days. But our programs as ANT is to try and cover three districts per day. The program is very tight and we have no option, we must keep going and do what we can," he added.

He said the public should support campaigns of the parties of their choice those they want to get into power, as part of their investment towards the kind of change they desire.

"If the public can support the opposition political parties; we can have smooth campaigns. Inject funds in the different parties you want. If you want ANT in power, you contribute to it. If we can get 1.5million people raising sh5000/= each, that is about sh7bn," he said.

Muntu stressed that the public's support would be like contributing to a wedding or offertory to the church preparing for.

He made the remarks while unveiling a 47-member team task force which is going to coordinate his campaigns at the party offices along Buganda Road, in Nakasero, Kampala.

The team is to work with sub region and district committees.

The members of the team include; Alice Alaso (chairperson of the taskforce), deputized by Nyanja Musoke, Hannington Basakana, Jackson Wabyona, Serubiri Sewavah, Yokasi Bihande, Kasiano Wadri, Paul, Mwiru, Gerald Karuhanga, Dan Mugarura, Sarah Kiyingi, Frank Mukunzi, Annet Kandole, Honest Wilkins, Daniel Brain Ampereza (PWD), Richard Anguyo (PWD), Ambassador Edith Sempala, Hamidu Kimark, Sulaiman Kakaire, Abubarker Matanda, Wilberforce Seryazi, Moses Odilit, Martin Okumu, Eunice Okullo, Zanubia Namutamba, David Bala, Nyakato Rusoke.

 Condemns brutality of politicians

Muntu also raised concern over the continued brutality against opposition politicians by security forces.

"This country is for all of us. We know that forces might be under pressure from those in power but they also need to do things that promote stability," he said.

He warned that acts of brutality and torture can easily brew anger among people which can affect the country.

The national campaign manager, Winnie Kiiza stressed that the EC should take responsibility of all candidates' security and welfare.
