Police deploy heavily ahead of presidential nominations

Ten presidential aspirants are expected to participate in the two – day event starting Monday at Kyambogo University.

The Police and other security agencies, have deployed heavily in the city ahead of  nominations for presidential aspirants on Monday.

According to Edward Ochom, who is the director in charge of operations at Uganda Police Force, the move is to forestall a possible disruption of the two-day event as they consider it a potential target for threats, including sabotage, defiance campaigns and other civil disobedience acts such as provocation of security forces and terrorism.

In addition to the deployment, a two-day daytime curfew for Kyambogo, Kireka and neighbouring areas starting Monday has been announced. 

"We would like to inform and reassure all presidential aspirants that their safety and security is guaranteed," he said, adding that they are in position to counter all forms of illegal activities and violent demonstrations.  

Ten presidential aspirants are expected to participate in the two - day event starting Monday at Kyambogo University.

According to EC's program, six aspirants will be nominated Monday. These include President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni (NRM), Henry Tumukunde (independent), John Katumba (independent), Mugisha Muntu (Alliance for National Transformation) and Nancy Linda Kalembe (independent).  

National Unity Platform aspirant Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine; Patrick Oboi Amuriat of Forum for Democratic Change party and Independents; Willy Mayambala, Fred Mwesigye, Joseph Kiiza Kabuleeta will be nominated on Tuesday.
