KAMPALA - The National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters have vowed to liberate Kampala from the hands of the opposition political parties.

The move is coming with new strategies to re-energize the existing party strictures from the grassroots to the district and regional levels and incorporate them in the campaign task forces aimed at achieving 70 percent of the vote for the party candidate, Yoweri Museveni and other flag bearers.

On Saturday, Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi, the NRM national vice chairman for the central region and state minister for tourism launched the NRM Kampala Regional Taskforce where they vowed to work as a team to achieve victory.

"For NRM winning is a must," Kiwanda said at a function held at Kati Kati Restaurant in Lugogo where he commissioned the task force headed by Singh Katongole, the area national NRM vice-chairman. Others were Salim Uhuru Nsubuga (Kampala Central), Buchana Namakula (Rubaga), Nicholas Arinaitwe (Nakawa), Lukyamuzi (Makindye) and Denis Kazibwe alias Ragga Dee (Lord Mayor party flag bearer).

Kiwanda appealed to NRM supporters in Kampala to comply with the Electoral Commission and ministry of healthy directives and avoid coming up to hold processions or attempting to escort their candidate on Monday when the President Yoweri Museveni will be going for nomination at Kyambogo University.

He said party supporters must be good examples to others for purposes of complying with the COVID-19 Standards Operating Procedures (SOPs) but asked them to remain at their respective divisions and celebrate the President's nomination locally.

Kiwanda appealed to the taskforce to work tirelessly to liberate all the divisions of Kampala, starting with the Central region, where Salim Nsubuga Uhuru is the party flagbearer and the Lord Mayoral seat, where the party fielded Denis Kazibwe, alias Ragga Dee, among others.

"We are going to work together as one team to achieve victory,", he said.

The taskforce has coined a slogan, ‘Kampala Ya Museveni', but Kiwanda asked them to add another slogan, ‘Buganda for Museveni'.

Katongole said a few more people will be incorporated into the existing NRM structures at different levels and said this time they must work as a team to achieve victory, aiming at 80 percent for President Museveni.

The function was attended by Sheikh Sulaiman Lubega Gguggwa, an ardent supporter of the NRM who appealed to the task force not to be timid but come out vehemently to solicit for support from the public.

He said although some NRM supporters were still sceptical about their win, ‘it will be a miracle for the opposition to win the coming election'. He assured President Museveni would win with a big margin even in the Kampala area.
