The Ugandan Wildlife Authority (UWA) has warned Ugandans encroaching on national parks across the country to stop or face the Legal Implications.

This comes after the Benet Community around Mt Elgon National Park in eastern Uganda raised complaints about eviction operations by UWA.

The Benet, led by Moses Kipitala, have expressed their dissatisfaction with the numerous operations by UWA to displace them without compensation, saying these operations have resulted in several deaths. They are now asking the Government to intervene.

In response, UWA officials, led by Vanist Mirembe, urged the Benet Community to set aside hostility, saying it has blocked efforts to settle the matter. She said the Government had already allocated about 8,000 hectares of land for their resettlement but disappointingly, it had always been sold off by the local leaders.
