Angom was arrested on October 11, by a team of detectives from CID headquarters in Kampala on charges of uttering false documents, forgery and conspiracy to commit a felony in the Nyabushozi county NRM primaries.

It is alleged that Angom changed results on the tally sheets in favor of Col. Fred Mwesigye against Wilson Kajwengye. Later Kajwengye petitioned NRM Chairperson Yoweri Museveni saying there should be fresh elections in the 84 villages where Kajwengye claimed that there was no voting due to violence, which disenfranchised people from voting.

The total votes for Nyabushozi County, in which Col. Mwesigye had been declared a winner was exceeding the total votes for the Kiruhura district Woman MP.

Tanga Odoi later ordered that there should be fresh elections for the whole constituency where Kajwengye defeated Mwesigye with 22,148 (61.1%), whereas Mwesigye garnered 14,121 (38.9%).

Angom, who did not physically appear in court (due to restrictions on Covid-19) presided over by the chief magistrate, Samuel Ntende Kagoda, on Thursday, was represented by his lawyer Allan Musasiire who presented three sureties and prosecution found them substantial.

They included Solomon Rugiira, Wyclif Kakiza, his father and the mother who told court through their lawyer that they will compel Angom not to jump bail.

His worship Kagoda later granted a cash bail of sh500,000 and each surety a none cash bail of sh5m. Kagoda later adjourned the case to October 29 this year for hearing.
