The Wakiso district education officer, Frederick Kiyingi Kinobe, has clarified that parents who paid for the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) exams in the first term will not pay again.

He said headteachers have got the task of making sure that children get registered for UNEB exams.

Kiyingi said only those parents who had not paid will be required to pay the money so that their children are registered to sit exams.

He made the remarks recently while addressing some of the school directors and headteachers from private schools in Wakiso at the district town council.

The registration for the UNEB exams, Kiyingi said, is expected to start on October 26 and will last for one month.

He added that administrators must make sure that their schools are fenced and those who cannot build a wall fence should use barbed wire.

This is intended to restrict unauthorised people from entering the school premises, which could expose the students to COVID-19.

The minister of state for primary education, Rosemary Seninde, called upon the school administrators to ensure that they adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in their schools.

The minister advised the teachers to be creative and innovative, adding that they should be able to change with the dynamic environment.

She lauded teachers who managed to do some work to survive during the COVID-19 lockdown.

The minister, however, emphasised that all teachers must observe the SOPs, saying there is no vaccine yet and children must be protected.

Seninde also said the ministry was following the issue of the sh22b that President Yoweri Museveni gave to teachers in private schools.

She said the ministry will help teachers in private schools to start SACCOS, so that the money becomes a revolving fund.
