Nina Roz denies Daddy Andre 'Kukyala'

Some people even alleged that the Kyoyooyo singer was pregnant.

Last weekend, word on many entertainment websites and social media was that Nina Roz had taken Daddy Andre to her parents for a kukyala. The kukyala is the precursor of a traditional wedding/introduction.

Daddy Andre

The news spread rapidly like a wildfire as many alleged that the Kyoyooyo singer was pregnant. Fake news just! According to our investigation, Daddy Andre neither visited Nina's mother nor father (step). We also confirmed that Nina Roz did not visit her parents over the weekend, so the question of carrying Daddy Andre's framed photograph to her parents does not arise.

Nina Roz, we learnt from Kisugu where she grew up, was brought up by Salongo Gita. Nina Roz is well remembered in the areas of Kibuli and Kisugu. On our visit, Gita seemed like he did not know anything about Daddy Andre visiting his home to propose a marriage to his daughter.

He feigned ignorance of Nina Roz. "Nina Roz? Nina Akankunda? Who is that person? The truth is I don't know anybody called Nina Akankunda or even Nina Roz. I am a Muganda man. I do not remember having a Mukyankole child. I have never even heard of that name. Perhaps I can try asking other people around for your sake. Tell the people who sent you that I am Gita Salongo Haji. I have never heard of that name even among my tenants," he said.

We later learnt from neighbours that Nina has had a sour relationship with Gita ever since she decided to pursue secular music. Gita is a celebrated Muslim in the area. Badru Gita, who identified himself as Nina's brother, told our sister paper The Kampala Sun that he knows Nina very well and that she is a good friend and sister. He, however, added that she did not tell him about a kukyala.

"I saw such a thing on social media, but it is not true. It never happened at our dad's place. Perhaps it happened at her mother's place. I think you should try talking to her mother. She may know something about it. She is a polite and good woman," Badru advised us.

Nina Roz's mother is calm and has a warm personality. That's until she finds out that you are a journalist. After chit-chat and introducing myself as a journalist, she became rude.  "No! No! No! What do you journalists want? I do not know anything about whatever you are trying to ask me. I do not want to talk to you about Nina. Just leave. Please help me and leave. We are tired of news. Please leave, please," she demanded.

Her neighbours, however, informed us that there were no visitors. Nina Roz asked us to leave her parents out of Daddy Andre's visit to them. She said she is the only one who should talk about it.

"It was not true. Just leave that story. Th ose are just stories. Try asking about my music, not my private life," she said furiously.

That gives credit to the conspiracy theory that the two are using the kukyala gimmick as a marketing stunt for a probable song. In the recent past, Daddy Andre was is the news for an affair with Angela Katatumba, where she shut him up with the claim that they only sang and did not sleep together because he refused to take a medical test.

 Change of management

Less than five months ago, Nina Roz joined Sure Events and Management aft er quitting Boom Bark Records, where she had been signed for almost a year. Sure Events is a new entrant in the industry.

"I have goals as an artiste and the label had not been doing enough to help me achieve those goals," she explained days after leaving Boom Bark Records.

However, our sources at another television station, where her former manager hosts entertainment shows, say she had a bitter split with a one Ismail Fahad, the proprietor and founder of Sure Events and Management.

According to Isma, Nina Roz was disrespectful and he could not take it anymore, thus parting ways with her.

"She's so ungrateful. For the short time we spent together, I managed to make wonders and vibe her career more. She would get paid to perform at shows behind my back and instead use the money for her personal interests," Isma says.

On why he took away the brand new convertible car he had bought her, Isma says she used to have sex in the car and yet they agreed it was meant to transport her.

"In our culture, having sex in a car is a bad omen. And how could a star like she claims to be fail to aff ord a hotel?" asked Isma.

On whether they had a misunderstanding as a couple or business partners, he refuted the rumours that he had ever managed her between the sheets. Nina Roz later joined Black Market Records, the same label that signed Daddy Andre.

"I was never signed under Sure Events. It was just a business deal I had with Sure Events. It was about doing adverts for them, but not management. When the business deal was done, I moved on and along the way, I got Black Market as a management,"Nina Roz says.

Nina advises people against always rushing to pin artistes over changing management.
