Baby dies before surgery

“I want to thank everyone who reached out to me through prayers and finances, but my baby failed to make it,” said Joan Nalubiri, a 25-year-old mother.

The 10-months old baby who was supposed to undergo surgery at the Uganda Heart Institute passed on over the weekend.

Baby Bukenya who had difficulty in breathing and diminishing eyes started deteriorating last week until she died.

"I want to thank everyone who reached out to me through prayers and finances, but my baby failed to make it," said Joan Nalubiri, a 25-year-old mother.

Nalubiri, a resident of Ggaba, who called New Vision while in tears thanked God for the time she has been with her baby.

Medical documents signed by, Dr Michael Charles Oketcho, the head of the Pediatric cardiac surgery at the Uganda Heart Institute, indicated that Bukenya had a complex congenital heart anomaly. Total anomalous pulmonary venous return (TAPVR) which required urgent surgical correction.

Total anomalous pulmonary venous return (TAPVR) is a rare congenital malformation in which all four pulmonary veins do not connect normally to the left atrium.
