Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has announced a new system of managing the Old Taxi Park.

The KCCA executive director, Dorothy Kisaka, over the weekend said there will an efficient park management system that will do away with the disorder of the previous management.

"The commuter taxi will be tasked with booking before they enter the park and pay a fee," she said.

"All commuter taxis entering the Old Taxi Park will have to pay a small fee and it will go towards maintenance of the park," Kisaka said while on a tour of the different projects in Kampala.

Notification via mobile phone

Taxi drivers will pay and wait for their time to load passengers in the park. They will get a notification on their mobile phones before they enter the park.

The park under reconstruction will accommodate about 345 commuter taxis, but not all of them will enter it.

Renovation of the park started in May this year and work is expected to be completed in four weeks. Kisaka said the owners of the plots around the park will be required to put up new structures in line with the new development plan.

Kisaka also toured the non-motorised transport system (NMTS), which runs from Bakuli through Namirembe Road up to Luwum Street.

The KCCA executive director said vendors are going to be relocated to markets.
