FMU is yet to decide the 2020 champion or whether to cancel the season

Former National Rally Champion Jas Mangat has ruled out competing in the Kenya National Championship saying that he will be competing on the local circuit.

The three-time national champion (2012, 2013 & 2016) told New Vision during training at the Uganda Motorsport Arena in Busiika that rumours he will be moving to Kenya are unfounded.

"We are not sure when this COVID-19 pandemic will end, but I will be competing here because there is good competition," Mangat said.

If the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) meets the government health guidelines and manages to organise events, Mangat will face stiff opposition from 2019 NRC champion Yasin Nasser, Ronald Ssebuguzi, Hassan Alwi, Godfrey Lubega, and Arthur Blick Jr.

Others to watch out for are Rajiv Ruparelia, Dr Ahmed Ashraf, Christakis Fitidis, Duncan Mubiru, Kephar Walubi and Omar Mayanja.

Ambrose Byona, 2011 and 2018 national champion Suzan Muwonge as well as John Burrows Lumu are expected to return from their sabbaticals.

FMU is yet to decide whether to declare Fred Busulwa the 2020 champion or cancel the season or organise an event to decide the champion.

Busulwa leads the championship with 130 points, ahead of second-place Omar Mayanja (110) and Hassan Alwi (100).
