He managed to score 15 points in the bid to earn qualification to the 2020 Olympics next year.

Uganda Cycling Association president Sam Muwonge has urged the government to increase funding to enable cyclists to compete in more International Cycling Federation sanctioned events.

This will enable them to score and accumulate points which help them qualify for World Championships, Commonwealth and Olympic Games.

"We request the government to increase support so that our cyclists can compete in all international competitions so that they accumulate more points to enable them to qualify for the Olympics if possible," Muwonge said.

Meanwhile, Charles Kagimu finished 11th overall in the 2020 Tour De Thailand over the weekend despite crashing in the final stage.

He managed to score 15 points in the bid to earn qualification to the 2020 Olympics next year.

The points will also help him to accumulate more in the coming events if he is to qualify for the world championships.

"Unfortunately, he crashed in the last stage but managed to finish 11th overall and the 15points he got are useful in his future bid to qualify for world championships," Muwonge said

Kagimu is supported by Bike Aid Germany and is the only Ugandan with points at the international ranking at the moment.
