Akiror keeping fit despite uncertainty over restart

Players are generally used to being on strict diets coupled with proper fitness plans

Grace Akiror has come to terms with the uncertainty of volleyball's future so the Nkumba University player has resorted to creativity in her fitness journey.

She has taken the bull by the horns and is creating fitness routines that should help her in case the games resumes this year.

"It is not easy to do personal training especially since I am used to group training. But firstly, I watch my diet.

I walk to nearby areas to buy my groceries and sometimes I do aerobics at home following some TV programs that offer it," Akiror said.

It's really been a struggle for many volleyball players especially since there is no known date when the sport will return which only makes life difficult for the players.

Players are generally used to being on strict diets coupled with proper fitness plans which need to be adhered to in order for them to perform at elite levels.

It gets difficult to keep up with one's fitness routine but for now, the players will make do with their own plans.

Akiror admitted that she does jog but not often as she needs to which just highlights the difficulty most teams have experienced during this period.

"I also go jogging some evenings, though this one I rarely do," she explained.

The Uganda Volleyball Association is amongst those preparing to restart activities but the mandatory COVID-19 tests every fortnight are making life hard.
