KAMPALA - Nominations for parliamentary candidates for Kampala kicked off on Thursday at Electoral Commission Kampala regional office in Ntinda.
Over 50 candidates were nominated in an exercise presided over by Kampala district returning officer Frederick Muwaya.
Security was tight as a joint army and police deployment mounted blockades to access routes leading to Electoral Commission Kampala regional office on Kyambogo Road at Ntinda.
Among those nominated was former attorney general Freddie Ruhindi, lands minister Beti Kamya (NRM) who is reclaiming her Rubaga North constituency from Moses Kasibante (Independent), Makindye East candidates Abubakar Kawalya (NUP), Ibrahim Kasozi (FDC) Nanziri Lukanga, Daudi Nkambo, Sulaiman Kabuye.
Outspoken MP Mohamed Nsereko (independent), Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu (NUP) Cedrick Babu Ndirima (NRM) Edward Ssenkubuge were nominated for Kampala Central.
Kato Lubwama (independent), Samael Lubega Mukaaku (independent) Eugenia Nassolo (DP), Charles Kenneth Male (NRM) for Rubaga South.
Stella Nyanzi (FDC), Shamim Malende (NUP), Aisha Nabasirye, Robinah Rebecca Namumuwaya (Independent) and Fatuma Mubiru (JEEMA).
Micheal Kabaziguruka (FDC), Joel Ssenyony i(NUP), Kenneth Paul Kakande (independent) were cleared for Nakawa East.
Latiff Ssebaggala accompanied by his wives (independent), Sulaiman Kidandala (independent), Mohamed Sseggirinya (NUP), Tom John Kasenger (NRM) and John Barrows Lumu (Independent) and Salim Serukenya for Kawempe North.
For Makindye West, Allan Ssewanyana (NUP), Achilles Lubega, Farouq Ntege, Abubakar Sserunga, Kassim Kyazze.
