RUKUNGIRI - The Police in Rukungiri have arrested two National Resistance Movement (NRM) youth delegates for allegedly exchanging money during NRM youth parliamentary elections held on Saturday at district headquarters.

The Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner, Dan Kaguta, who was at the scene, said the two were arrested after closed circuit television (CCTV) footage showed them exchanging money at the polling venue.

"With our CCTVs around the town, the work of the Police is eased because we are monitoring all the corners of the district," Kaguta said.

The NRM registrar, Jackson Mugarura Kiiza, said the Police have picked up two delegates Albert Mugume and Elizabeth Rwakitinera.

"I saw two of our delegates being driven off in Police vehicles, but I don't know about what," he said.

One of the security officers who did not want to be named said it was a serious offence because they were exchanging money after entering the electoral area.

Later the elections took place at around 2:30pm when the two were still in Police custody.
