UPDF soldier guns down man siphoning fuel

The shooting allegedly occurred when the deceased attempted to disarm the soldier

The Police is investigating a case where a man was gunned down by a UPDF soldier while siphoning fuel from a truck in Buliisa, in the Bunyoro oil-rich region.

37-yr-old businessman Mohammad Mutazindwa and resident of Civic Cell in Buliisa town, was shot dead by Pte Edison Nuwasasira.

"It is alleged that the deceased and others were all travelling in a pickup truck and had gone to siphon fuel from a parked vehicle belonging to Chinese at a murram quarry site at Biso sub-county," a Police detective privy to the investigation told New Vision in a telephone interview yesterday.

"The shooting allegedly occurred when the deceased attempted to disarm the soldier," the detective who preferred anonymity added.

The vehicle used by the deceased, siphoning pipe and a jerrycan full of fuel was recovered from the scene.

Mutazindwa's body was taken to Buliisa Main Hospital for a post-mortem.
