The Kabaka, who last appeared in public on July 31, thanked the Government for sensitising the public on the COVID-19 pandemic and urged Ugandans to adhere to the health ministry guidelines put in place to contain the spread of the disease.

The Kabaka, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi, has called for law-abiding leadership in the country, which he said will heal the wounds of the communities in Buganda and Uganda at large.

"As we celebrate this day, we remember the challenges which Buganda has gone through before independence to date.

Many atrocities were committed, including envy and hate during that period and others are still going on.

Although these were intended to erase Buganda, they have led to far-reaching implications that have affected all Ugandans.

To heal these wounds and to promote unity in Buganda and Uganda, we need good law-abiding leadership and equality, where each region handles its core demands," the Kabaka said.

He also decried environmental degradation, saying in many cases, it appears as if environmental laws only apply to the weak and unprivileged.

In a stern voice, the Kabaka decried what he termed as a lack of commitment to the regulations put in place to protect the environment. "One wonders whether this country has environment authorities and laws.

Under what circumstances do these laws apply? The environment has been degraded by unpatriotic people," the Kabaka noted.

He made the remarks at Mengo Palace, while offi ciating at the annual Bulungi Bwansi day, which is held on October 8 as the kingdom celebrates independence from colonial rule and the independence of Uganda.

At the same occasion, the Kabaka urged the Government to promote solar energy to save the environment.

Unlike the usual pomp at Mengo events, majority of the guests at the "scientific" function were VIPs, including kingdom ministers, local leaders; Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and Wakiso district chairperson Matia Lwanga Bwanika.

Oketcho Chombo, the minister for agriculture and environment in Adhola chiefdom, was introduced as a special guest. The event also attracted Buganda's development partners on environmental protection, who included Habitat for Humanity, Princess Katrina-Sarah Ssangalyambogo engaged?

The Princess posted a picture of her ring on her Instagram timeline, attracting mixed reactions from her followers and other internet users.

Dave Mate: Surprisingly, she will get a white man, with all the handsome Baganda men around. And we shall sing praise songs of Buganda on top, while we cannot appreciate our own, the likes of Komuntale.

Liz Acheng: She is just 19. And it looks like she is clapping hands. That is a designer ring, not an engagement ring. Leave the princess alone. Jackie Chekwech: Where is she running to?

This is a baby who was just born yesterday. The girl is faster than Cheptegei. Kabaka Ronald Mutebi waves to guests.
