Entebbe Club to re-open with match-play competition

Oct 12, 2020

According to the club pro-Dickson Lagoro, the tournament that is a warm-up to next year’s Singleton Match Play Championship is open to all golfers.

One of the most popular golf tournaments in the country-the Singleton golf tournament at Entebbe Club had entered the Round of 32 when a lockdown on all sports activities was imposed because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Gregg Paterson and Nicholus Hercules were looking to extend their winning streak against Paul Kalemba/Faith Namara in the second round before the lockdown.

With action slowly returning especially for outdoor sports, the different pairs and the different individuals now get a chance to dust off their equipment and sharpen their game in a Singles Match-Play Knock Out Qualifier at the club in October 17.

According to the club pro-Dickson Lagoro, the tournament that is a warm-up to next year's Singleton Match Play Championship is open to all golfers.

The golfers will be expected to adhere to the strict Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) like ensuring that during play on-course items like rakes are removed while all ball washers on the course will be covered up.

The club will also be required to position hand sanitizers at strategic places on the course while benches and bins will be removed, covered, or sign-posted in such a way that players do not touch them according to some of the SOPs by the Uganda Golf Union.

Practice areas, including practice nets, will be closed unless safe sanitizing practices can be guaranteed with regular washing of range balls a must and sanitizing range buckets after every use with a personal towel recommended.

On the course, flagsticks can be retained, but it is strongly recommended that a sign is put on the flagstick stating that it is not to be touched.

The cup of the golf hole should be inserted in such a way that the entire ball does not fall below the surface of the putting green and can be easily retrieved by handling the ball only according to some of the guidelines.
