The Motorcycling Association of Uganda (MAU) on Sunday elected an executive committee that will operate for a two-year term replacing an interim committee of Julius Bukenya, Peter Ndiwalana, and Denis Musede.

The members voted businessman Patrice Namisano as president, Evas Orland (vice president), Julius Bukenya (Secretary), Peter Ndiwalana (treasurer), city advocate Denis Musede (Legal & disciplinary officer), Joseph Opio (Technical officer), Prossy Nanyonga, and Robert Mawanda assistant secretary and treasurer respectively.

All positions were elected unopposed except for the one of the technical officer where Joseph Opio defeated Edson Ssekamwa by 44-22 votes.

Barak Orland, Asaf Natan, Patrick van Pee, Ali Omar, and Newton Sambo were voted members of the senate.

MAU was formed in December 2019 by a group of aggrieved motocross riders and parents who decided to make motorcycling independent in Uganda.

In their two-year term of office, the committee will focus on increased girls' participation in the sport, affiliating the association to the National Council of Sports, the continental body (FIM Africa), and the world body (FIM).

Evas Orland promised the members in her acceptance speech that the committee is determined to develop the sport to international standards.

"We are going to sit as executives to draw out plans, put our offices in order to make sure we comply with the laws of the country together with the rules and regulations of the sport," Orland said.

"We shall have events, but we are going to re-organise the calendar and decide how many races to organise this year," she added.

When asked how they intend to handle the existing rift with the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU), she explained that they have an independent program as MAU, but they are ready to cooperate and exchange ideas with FMU.
