Due to the prevailing circumstances as a result of COVID-19 pandemic, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has resolved to extend the tenure of the sitting office-bearers.

The resolution was made by the party delegates during the National Council meeting at the party offices in Najjanankumbi, an outskirt of Kampala.

The delegates unanimously agreed to extend the term of the office- bearers for three more years. This means their term will end in 2023.

The council was chaired by the Ag. party national chairman, Mukalazi Kibuuka.

He explained to the delegates that the circumstances at hand, could not allow the party to hold a delegates' conference to change leadership, as required by the party constitution.

Government suspended open campaigns and huge gatherings ahead of the 2021 elections to avoid the spread of COVID-19.

The party secretary-general Nandala Mafabi said they also had a challenge of building structures and fundraising due to COVID-19.

"The Government has refused to fund political parties as required by the law. But we are going to pay nomination fees for our parliamentary and others at various levels through various means," he added.

Mafabi said some of the MPs deliberately refused to remit monthly contributions to the party as per the contract.

"This has greatly affected our activities. The National Executive Committee resolved that we take them to court but we still studying the matter. If they refuse to respond, we shall have no option," he added.

He stressed that those who had already used their money will be refunded.

"We only need your receipts and nomination forms for accountability," he noted.

The delegates also resolved to open up seven campaign bureaus in different parts of the country.
