The first ever Uganda Yaffe Festival, aimed at celebrating unity and diversity, is set to be launched on Thursday (October 8) and it will take place online.

It will be held virtually - on the eve of Uganda's Independence anniversary - due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

The organisers, Baboon Forest Entertainment in partnership with Nsimbi, say the maiden edition of the festival is a celebration of Uganda's Independence Day.

Uganda gained her independence from the British colonialists on October 9, 1962 - and this year, the east African nation will be celebrating her 58th independence anniversary.

It is in this spirit that the Uganda Yaffe Festival will celebrate the cultures and people of Uganda in the form of a 90-minute free online show.

The festival will be streamed live on Facebook and YouTube on Thursday starting at 9:00pm (Ugandan time), and will feature some of Uganda's most prominent and celebrated world artistes and personalities.

The virtual event will include performances from GNL Zamba, as well as his duo Nsimbi with Miriam Tamar, from their residence in the USA.

They will be joined by Ugandans from around the world, including Isaiah Katumwa (New York), Suzan Kerunen (Uganda), Kinobe (Washington DC) and Nylah Abitimo-Jones (UK).

They will perform and share their stories of patriotism at home and abroad.

New generation Ugandan artistes, including Fresh Kid, will also feature

The show will also feature a youth project presentation  of the popular Uganda Yaffe tune that became a social phenomenon, newly remixed by Baru and GNL to  feature new  generation artistes such as Fresh Kid, Taurus, Prolific, Maxi, Joyie 7 star and Kadabrah.

The Uganda Yaffe audio remix was officially released on Friday, October 2, 2020, setting in motion the festivities.

The organisers see the Uganda Yaffe Festival and remix as their Independence Day gift to highlight Uganda's rich culture and diversity while bringing people together to celebrate what makes Uganda - aptly named the Pearl of Africa - unique.

From the elders to the youth, those at home and abroad, everyone is invited to gather once again like the ancestors did - this time around an online fireplace - to connect, share wisdom and celebrate with music.

Baboon Forest Entertainment has previously organised memorable concerts and people-centered social experiences that promote connection and growth, especially among the youth.

Just like the past years, the company remains committed to delivering impactful and exciting entertainment that bridges the gaps between generations.

"We want to make Uganda Yaffe an inclusive annual festival  where Ugandans from all over can come together safely to enjoy a well curated lineup of Ugandan creatives from home and abroad share our stories, music and culture for the whole world to see and for the youth to emulate," they said in a statement.
