Three more bodies recovered after River Nile boat accident

According to the Police, the accident happened on Tuesday as eight people sailed from Pakwach to Nwoya district.

Three of the four missing bodies following a boat accident on River Nile in Pakawach district have been recovered.

According to the Police, the accident happened on Tuesday as eight people sailed from Pakwach to Nwoya district.

Earlier, the body of a three-month-old baby was recovered while three people survived after their boat was overturned by strong winds.

"Three of the four missing dead bodies have been retrieved in a search following the incident of boat capsizing on River Nile in Pakwach district on Tuesday," Josephine Angucia, the West Nile regional Police spokesperson said.

"Meanwhile one remaining body of a victim called Shukuran, a female adult from Erusi sub-county, Nebbi district is still being searched for."

The Police identified the recovered bodies as Ofoy Jakuma, Rwothmio, Gloria Gilamio, and a baby boy all from Nebbi district. 

"The three survivors are Maureen Oikane and Lillian Akello, and Muber also known as Kadogo. According to information got on ground, the eight people were heading to their gardens in Bira village, Nwoya district when their boat capsized on River Nile due to heavy wind."

"The dead bodies have been collected by the relatives for burial," Angucia said.
