Ten people have been nominated to contest for LC 5 Chairperson, Iganga district.
The 10 include Ezra Gabula, (NRM ) Shabiru Isabirye (FDC), Hassan Kongola (NUP), Sylivia Kateme, Paul Luganda, Vincent Bagoole, George Swagaa, James Mawanda, Sinani Waguma, and Fred Isabirye all independents.
Majority of the independent contested and lost in the NRM primaries.
Ten people were also nominated to contest for the position of mayor, Iganga municipality, while five were nominated to contest for the seat of LC 3 Central Division, and four for Northern Division, Iganga municipality.
Those nominated to contest for the mayor seat are Hajji Asuman Dhabasada (NRM), Bamu Lulenzi (NUP), Henry Dhikusoka alias Busagwa, David Balaba, Ibrahim Musobya, Sheikh Ibrahim Kisambira, Peter Musoke, Jane Agaba, and Farid Buyinza all independent.
The five nominated to contest for the seat of LC 3 Central Division are Salim Kyebandaza (FDC), Jafferi Kiiza (NRM), Hussein Mpiya, Stuart Ruhundo, and Yakuti Bisiki all independents.
Three people sailed through unopposed for the various local council positions in the district and are waiting to be sworn in.
They include female youth councilor Central division, Amina Biso, male district councilor Paul Mukova and female councilor Northern Division, Norah Mutesi.
The district returning officer Iganga, Mercy Ataho cautioned those who had been nominated against conducting campaigns before the official communication from the Electoral Commission (EC)
